friendly: Chelsea 2 Bayern Munich 3
Alvaro Morata helped set up a goal on his Chelsea debut but could not prevent a 3-2 friendly defeat against Bayern Munich in Singapore.
Chelsea paid the price for a slow start, falling 3-0 behind when first Brazilian full-back Rafinha came forward and pinged a low shot from 25 yards which found it's way into the corner.
Then Franck Ribery found space to wander down the left wing before floating in a cross which Thomas Muller volleyed past Thibaut Courtois.
But in first-half stoppage time the Premier League champions pulled one back when Alonso drilled in Victor Moses' square pass.
And Morata made his mark with six minutes remaining, flicking on a Fabregas corner at the near post to leave Batshuayi with a tap-in.
Fresh from their 3-0 win over Arsenal, Chelsea were brought back down to earth by German champions Bayern Munich, as they conceded three times themselves in the opening 20 minutes in Singapore.
Rafinha’s low drive found the bottom corner in the fifth minute to hand Carlo Ancelotti’s side the lead, and Antonio Conte was furious as his side conceded a second seven minutes later, Thomas Muller firing in from close range after good work from Franck Ribery.
Muller, fighting for his place more than ever before in Bavaria, made it 3-0 with a wonderful long-range effort, that had Thibaut Courtois berating a defence that had stood off the German international.
Bayern continued to dominate, making the most of overloads out wide and space in behind Chelsea’s wing-backs, with as good a showing against this Chelsea formation as has been seen since Conte’s tactical switch last September.
On the stroke of half-time Chelsea got a goal back, Marcos Alonso rattling past Tom Starke.
Bayern continued to create the better chances in the second half, James Rodriguez going close on a number of occasions.
But it was Chelsea who had the final say, Michy Batshuayi making it three goals in two games on the stroke of full-time.
Conte: We tried to change the result
Conte on the game:
“Our start wasn’t good but the players showed me a great will to try to change the result.”
Conte on Morata:
“We must give him the right time to adapt to our way of football but he should be pleased with his performance.”
